What is Poisson ratio?

poission ratio is the ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain .Its value is always less than one.

Poission ratio is oftenly represented by 1/m or mu

Lateral strain, also known as transverse strain is strain occured at right angle to line of application of load.

Longitudinal strain also known as primary strain is strain occured along the axis of load applied.

Relation of elastic modulus(Youngs Modulus), poission ratio, Bulk modulus, Modulus of rigidity

1.
E = 2C (1 + (1/m))

2.
E = 3K (1 - 2(1/m))

3.
E = 9KC/(3K +C)

where
Elastic modulus is E
poission ratio is 1/m
Bulk modulus is K
Modulus of rigidity is C
