If you are given the task of fixture design what will be your steps ?

Study
Design
this is the first step which every fixture designer do .Study the 2d and 3d(Igs) Drawing provided by customer.

Process
what kind of process is required for workpiece, their pros and cons.

Dimensions
Understanding / Evaluating / Mark the critical dimensions .

R.F.Q. (Requirement for quotation)

will pen down the requirement, e.g.
Manufacturing of fixture
validation of fixture
delivery of fixture.
preventive maintenance
demo of fixture
inventory of critical units(spare parts)
Drawing (2d /3d or both) of Fixture (soft and hard) etc.

Float R.F.Q. for different party
select fixture designer on number of parameters like
Experience,location,cost, expert,recommendation etc.

Sign N.D.A(Non Disclosure Agreement) with party(fixture manufacturer)

Its a legal agreement with vendor that he will not use or distribute the design of fixture or component with any other(not reveal the design)

Finalize the order
negotiate and discuss various terms and condition and finalize the order

Send drawing to vendor
for design review once ok vendor will start his work

Vendor will first make a 3d data of fixture and discuss with customer for additional requirement or changes and get customer approval

will start base preparation

Base machining
Child part machining
Assy of child parts(Units)
Fixture checking with FARO/CMM/Whitelight scanner
part fitment trial
part manufacturing
Part checking

What is the difference between validation and calibration?

Validation is to find out the dimensions of part and later on it is decided whether we can pass it or not

Calibration is to make sure reading of instrument is correct
