What is the difference between stress and pressure?

Stress is the internal induced resisting force against deformation while pressure is always the externally applied.

  3. there are five main differnce between stress and pressure.........1.pressure is magnitude of external force applied or acting on a point but stress is magnitude of internal resisting force develop at a point 2.pressure always acts normal to the surface whereas stress either normal or horizontal to the surface 3. magnitude of pressure at a point in all the direction is same whereas stress magnitude is not equal in all the directions 4. due to fluid pressure stress are develop (hoop stress) whereas due to stress pressure not develop 5. pressure can be measured by pressure gauge whereas stress can not be measures directly ...........BY ANIL MEEL B.Tech.
